The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) together with the Bangkok Chess Club and Thailand Chess Association will organize the “Thailand Open Chess Championship 2010” during 14-20 April, 2010, the Thai New Year (Songkran) holiday period in Bangkok.
More than 300 participants from 50 countries have registered to join this year’s contest, well above the 130 participants from 29 countries who participated in last year’s event. This year’s registrants include the highest ever list of female players.
This year is the 10th international tournament organised by the Bangkok Chess Club, with the primary sponsorship from TAT and the Thailand Chess Association.
The tournaments have attracted players of all levels from juniors to grandmasters from over 50 countries. The venue is the Grand Ballroom in the Century Park Hotel, Bangkok. Special room rates at the hotel have been negotiated in order to attract maximum attendance.
Prizes are for 1-10 ranks and 5 best Thais, and certificates for best 3 best juniors and best lady. The 1st prize will be 100,000 Baht (approx. 2,000 Euros). The challenger has prizes for 1-5, and certificates for 3 Best Juniors and Best Lady.
