The main road is being expanded to two lanes, said Vichan Kunagulsawat, director general of the Department of Rural Roads, while new ones will be built under the project estimated to cost 1.4 billion baht.
The first phase of the project, 7.4-km long from Thong Sala to Chaloak Lham, will be ready by the year's end, while in the second phase two new roads will be built, each 13-km long, from Ban Tai to Thong Nai Pan and Ban Neu to Chedi Wat Nai over the next two years.
By the time the project is completed in 2017, all the major points on the island, including Hat Rin beach, the scene of full-moon parties, Than Sadet and Than Praphat, as well as Hat Yai would be interlinked with each other by an efficient network of asphalt roads, considerably facilitating the flow of tourists as well as locals commuting daily around the island. |
