An Iranian man was arrested at the Koh Samui airport after the island’s Immigration Office had received a report about a departing passenger with an allegedly fake passport.
Police Lt. Gen. Jaruwat Boosaba, Chief Inspector of Koh Samui Immigration Office, accompanied by a 20-man team, nabbed James Fugaro Lazio Larabi, 23, at the departure gate of Koh Samui airport. He was later taken for interrogation at the Immigration office.
The suspect allegedly admitted that he had previously used the fake passport going in and out of Koh Samui many times, traveling to neighboring countries and Europe.
Larabi was arrested before he could board a flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport on his way to Germany.
The police said the Iranian national was using a fake Spain passport that had the photo of a person that looked similar to him. It was made to appear based on immigration stamps on the fake passport that he had entered Thailand via Padang Besar in the Malaysian border. But when checked, it was confirmed from the Padang Besar immigration that there was no entries recorded tallying with the date and other information of the suspect’s trip to Thailand. |
