Despite some isolated political conflict in Bangkok the previously Thailand has remained a safe travel destination for visitors from around the world. Around 4 million tourists arrive every quarter to enjoy the vast amount of varied sites and activities that Thailand has to offer and the government have spent a great deal of money on the road structure throughout the country to enable tourists to travel between different parts of Thailand with ease.
Thailand is the heart of Southeast Asia. Its main religion is Buddhism and the capital city, Bangkok also functions as a global travel hub with a new International Airport and one of the busiest in the world.
Southern Thailand stretches down towards Malaysia, and is renowned for its tropical beaches, verdant islands, excellent diving waters and dense rubber plantations.
The country's tourist destinations offer international standard accommodation, restaurants and facilities. In fact, tourism is one of the main industries in Thailand, with others being rice, textiles, rubber and electrical appliances.
Southern Thailand also has numerous islands, the most famous being on the east coast being Koh Samui and Koh Phangan which are two of the newest tourist destinations discovered by the backpackers in the 70’s. Originally their main industry was naturally coconuts and the majority of the inhabitants were fisherman however now the islands have started to have some form of infrastructure, tourism is now taken over as the main industry.
The islands of Phuket and Koh Phi Phi are located in the Andaman Sea in the west together with the coastal resorts of Krabi, Khao Lak and Phang Nga with their stunning scenery and amazing limestone karsts.
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are located in the north of Thailand which is mountainous and generally cooler than the rest of Thailand and the centre of Thaland is dominated by a long river valley
Thailand is fundamentally a tropical country that enjoys hot and sunny weather most of the year.
Most of Thailand will experience three main seasons:
November to January: Dry, sunny days and cool nights.
February to May: Hot and dry. April is considered the hottest month.
June to November: The Green Season (when rain is no fun for a beach holiday, but can make rural Thailand spectacular, with shimmering emerald rice fields!)
However, southern Thailand is an exception to the rule, where it is important that you choose the location of your Thailand holiday villa carefully if you are worried about rain, as the south generally gets twice as much rain as the remainder of the country.
Simply remember that the west coast (Phuket, Kao Lak, Krabi) will experience rain and stormy weather from April to October. The East coast on the other hand (Koh Samui and Koh Phangan) will witness most rainfall between September and December.
Thai cuisine is a popular around the globe. It blends five tastes – sweet, spicy, sour, bitter and salty. Most dishes also include garlic, chilies, lemon grass and fish sauce and more popular choices include red and green curry, spicy papaya salad and coconut chicken soup
Seafood and coconut milk feature prominently in southern thai food, and may also explain why the chili (originally an import into Thailand) is used so generously here in searing dishes such as "gaeng liang" or "gaeng tai pla". The thick, sweet peanut based Massaman curry also evokes an Indian influence.
Thailand has been nicknamed the ‘Golf Capital’ of Asia as it has so many world-class courses. Other popular pastimes include sailing, diving, watersports, watching local sports such as Thai boxing, buffalo fighting, elephant trekking, hiking and cycling are also possible.

Another important holiday is Loy Krathong (Festival of Light) celebrated in November where local people build small floats and add flowers and incense before sending them off in the evening into the nearest body of water which may be a stream, a river or even the sea. The festival is designed to send away bad luck and start afresh and fireworks, music and dancing follow the floating ritual well into the night. The King and Queens’s birthdays are seen as ‘mother’s day’ and father’s day
