Laem Sor - Koh Samui - Thailand

Laem Sor - Koh Samui - Thailand

Laem Sor is well known for being traditionally Thai and as it’s not over run with tourists.

Known for it's famous landmark the Golden Pagoda (Laem Sor Pagoda) it retains a sense of a time past, mirroring the early days of Koh Samui.

Away from busy roads and tourist enclaves of Samui’s other coastlines, here coconut plantations line quiet roads, Thai villagers smile as you pass by, Thai teak houses are dotted around the small village surrounded by plantations and palms and the unspoilt beach beckons.

Map of villas in Laem Sor

The Laem Sor area is part of the district of Ban Khao located on the south coast of Koh Samui. Considered one of the peaceful and tropical areas of Koh Samui, Laem Sor beach is a great choice for those seeking a perfect getaway with family or group of friends in one of our multi bedroom luxury beachfront villas.

Ban Khao Bay stretches from the equally peaceful deep south area of Laem set to the headland of the southern most tip of Laem Sor beach to the west beyond which is the picturesque fishing village of Thong Krut.

The palm fringed unspoilt sandy Laem Sor beach is bordered by an increasing number of luxury villas together with a scattering of local beach bars, bungalow resorts and a popular yoga retreat.

There is a very low tide during the summer months and the sea retreats 100's of meters out when kite surfers and other activities on the sand and in the shallow waters take over.

Laem Sor Pagoda

The main attraction here is Wat Laem Sor, part of which is a golden looking Pagoda perched on the waters edge at the headland at the the west end of Laem Sor beach. Next to this Chedi which was built many years ago is a 'meditation' forest, where there are also some seats and tables should you wish to stay a while and enjoy the stunning views over to the neighbouring islands of Koh Tan and Koh Matsum and even have a picnic. On Buddhist holy days, monks and lay people will fill the area with a festival atmosphere.

Next to this is a boathouse where model boats are placed to thank the monk who built the pagoda, for granting their wishes. A visitor centre is here to provide further information.

Prior to the existence of Pagoda Laem Sor, a snow white stupa known as Khao Chedi was erected over 100 years ago and sits on top of a steep hill above Ban Khao bay surrounded by various statues of Buddha. The view over the bay and the islands and mainland beyond is an added bonus

Boys Coffee Shop
Not an eatery but worth mentioning is this delightful coffee shop located right opposite the 7/11 in the village. Boy is from Chiang Mai and but has lived in Koh Samui for 10 years opening his organic coffee shop 4 years ago. The coffee and tea he brews in the shop is purely organic which he sources from the highlands back where he was brought up in Chiang Mai. The little coffee place was easily missed previously being just a small shop with limited seating however his fame on trip advisor with positive comments has led to travellers seeking him out to stop and enjoy a cup of organic coffee and tea.

There is also a small bungalow resort which has a pizzaria restaurant on the beach.
