Christmas in Thailand

22 November 2018

Where to eat a Christmas lunch in Thailand. Where to enjoy Christmas in Thailand - Stay in villas with a private chef in Thailand

Spending Christmas in Thailand can be a bit of an unconventional feeling. After all, in some countries the festive season is normally a time for cold weather, snug fireplaces and traditional festivities… But it doesn’t have to be!
Instead, you can trade in crisp reds for cool blues, swap winter chills for a warm breeze and replace the worries which come from hosting Christmas lunch, with a carefree lunch cooked by one of our in-house chefs.

You see, whilst Thailand is predominantly a Buddhist country, it’s a country that is very accommodating when it comes to covering the festivities of other religions. Trees go up, tinsel lines windows and special events are put on across the country to celebrate. Of course, the events vary based upon where in Thailand you’re located......

Where To Spend Christmas In Thailand

With December being one of the busiest months in Bangkok it is a great time to dress the city up and you will find the main shopping centres and the high end hotels putting up a great fairy lights display together Christmas decorations and super high Christmas trees.

However if you are looking to be close to a tropical beach to spend your Christmas holiday then consider these amazing Thailand locations.

Phuket

With rainforests, mountains and clear-watered beaches sprawled along the edge of the Andaman Sea, it’s easy to see why Phuket is one of Thailand’s most popular spots. But it isn’t just natural beauty that Phuket offers. From Phuket City to Patong, you’ll find an abundance of restaurants, spas, shops and nightclubs ensuring that there’s plenty to do when the sun goes down!

Koh Samui

Laying in the Gulf of Thailand is the country’s second largest island: Koh Samui. Whilst it was once known for the infamous Chaweng, Samui has reinvented itself and has become known for its luxury spas, coconut groves and palm-lined beaches—becoming the very definition of postcard perfect.

Koh Phangan

Whilst there was a time Koh Phangan was most popular for its full and half-moon parties, the island is incredibly balanced and offers a whole lot more than just a debaucherous party scene. Incredibly popular with expats and sporting a new reputation as a health-conscious island, Koh Phangan has waterfalls, beaches and a spiritual side to it - making it the perfect place for those who love to explore the outdoors.

Krabi

Surrounded by limestone formations which tower over clear waters, Krabi is without a doubt one of the most visually interesting areas of Thailand. The dramatic coastlines, warm waters and dense mangrove forests make Krabi a popular place for outdoor enthusiasts, offering an abundance of activities from rock-climbing, to diving.

Where To Eat Christmas Lunch In Thailand

When it comes to celebrating the festive period, no Christmas day is complete without eating until you need to undo the button on your trousers!

The options for where you can eat lunch at Christmas are bountiful across Thailand, as the country is renowned for its incredible food scene. However, it’s important to remember that not everywhere will serve Christmas lunch in its traditional form. Turkey with all the trimmings is very much a Western tradition, and as a result, requires an internationally-trained chef.

There are a variety of restaurants across Thailand which have such chefs available, and will host a traditional festive lunch for all to enjoy. These events can book up pretty fast, so it’s important to ensure you get your reservation in as early as possible.

Alternatively, we do have a few villas available, such as Ban Sawan, which has sourced a chef especially for the festive period, and as a result, will be providing a traditional lunch on Christmas Day. But fear not - no matter which villa you stay in this Christmas, all of our chefs know how to whip up a feast!

Authentic Thai meals and seafood barbeques are the most popular lunches of choice at Christmas, but regardless of your food preferences, as Christmas is a time for celebrating we recommend this: booking a villa and utilising having an in-house chef available to you. After all, what could be more celebratory than waking up and opening presents together with your family, before going for a walk along one of Thailand’s incredible beaches whilst lunch is prepared for you?

Perhaps the thought of relaxing in the sun whilst you recover from your Christmas food coma, before enjoying a swim in your private pool and eating pudding al fresco as the sun sets over the ocean?

We know, we know, it sounds pretty perfect. And the icing on the Christmas cake, is that many of our villa offerings have cinema rooms available so once the food element of Christmas day is done, you’ll be able to sit back and watch a Christmas classic (Miracle on 34th Street is one of our personal favourites!) on the big screen as the day draws to an end.
