Freedom Beach Phuket Thailand 13 December 2016

An insight into the stunning Freedom Beach near Patong on the west coast of Phuket.

Freedom Beach. Phuket, Thailand

Freedom Beach is a beautiful, secluded cove in Phuket. The secret of its beauty is that it’s quite difficult to access.

Speedboats and motorised watersports are banned from the beach, so it retains some unspoilt and tranquil beauty. The only motorised engines you will hear are from the long tail boats that are dropping off people from the nearby Patong beach. Longtail boat is one way to access the cove, which takes around 15 minutes from Patong and drops you right on the shore.

The other option is via a path route which is a 15 to 20 minute trek from the car park down some very steep steps and a path - only for the fit! The views are stunning though.

You will have to pay more for a longtail boat transfer (anything from 1200 - 1800THB), but if you park and walk you will still pay an access fee (200THB) in order to use the path. Even so, it’s well worth it when you arrive.

Powder white soft sand? Check. Azure blue sparkly sea? Check. Sunloungers and beach eats? Check. If you imagine a postcard perfect beach scene, this is probably it. It’s not deserted, but it’s not overcrowded either.

There is a 300 metre strip of sand and the water here is good for swimming and snorkelling - there are plenty of tropical fish to swim with. The backdrop of the bay is stunning, with a plethora of granite rock and jungle - it’s a great spot for some jealousy inducing instagram posts.

The ‘Freedom Beach’ parking area is at the southern end of Patong Bay, turn left at Amari Coral Beach and pass in front of Baan Yin Dee Resort, at the bottom of the hill and take a left. There is also another entrance on the road from Patong to Karon Beach.

The beach has very modern facilities with showers and toilets at one end of the beach - there is a restaurant and a bar and the best part is you can have your order taken without leaving your lounger - but food cost is at a premium unfortunately. Sunloungers are available for rent ( 120 THB) and are positioned under the palm trees leaving the beach completely clear for the beachtowel sun worshippers.

It’s a fantastic way to chill out - swim, play beach volleyball or simply relax.
