Koh Samui Regatta 2016

07 May 2016

Sailing in Koh Samui - Koh Samui Sailing Regatta 2016

Samui Regatta

The Samui Regatta is the island’s biggest sporting event.

The Koh Samui Regatta will take place from the Centara Grand Beach Resort on Chaweng Beach on the 21st to the 28th May 2016.

There is not a boating marina on Koh Samu - although plans are in place for a marina in the not too distant future - so sailing boats are generally anchored in front of the Centara Grand Beach Resort.

This is an international event with around 500 competitors joining annually from over 22 different countries. The event is now the final event of the Asian Yachting Grand Prix Championship.

The Regatta is also an opportunity for those that are not competing to get involved and enjoy some fun. You can purchase tickets to be in a spectator boat moored off the shoreline. There will be catamarans positioned at the start line, so you get a great view of the action. There will also be plenty of onshore activities to enjoy. This year the organisers have introduced a fun Stand-Up Paddleboard Challenge too.

One of the most popular events is the opening party at the Centara Grand Beach Resort’s Zico’s Brazilian Grill & Bar. Their trademark Brazilian dancers will help start the fun. This year the opening party is on Sunday 24th May 2016.

The Regatta Tavern situated in front of the Centara Grand Beach Resort is offering a Race Day Happy Hour between 5pm and 7pm with Canapes and Signature Cocktails.

At the end of the regatta there will be a gala dinner with awards and prizes held at the Centara Grand Beach Resort with a buffet dinner and live music. Priority is given to competing crew and their entry is included . There are some guest tickets available for non-sailors, but you need to contact the organisers to buy.

The Samui Regatta has approved hotel partners, but if you would prefer to have private accommodation, why not try the beautiful five bedroom Villa Mia situated at one end of Chaweng Beach. This sophisticated and stylish villa has a 25 metre lap pool, jacuzzi and children’s paddling pool and it’s situated directly on the beach. Or you could try the four bedroom Villa Manola on nearby Chaweng Noi which has views over to Chaweng Beach.
