5 Peaceful Beaches on Koh Samui

16 July 2018

A recommendation of 5 of the peaceful beaches in Koh Samui that you will find off the beaten track and away from the crowds

Visitors to Koh Samui seeking quiet peaceful solitude in a tropical beach paradise may not find exactly what they are looking for in popular, bustling Chaweng. If you are looking for something a little more secluded and chilled, you can escape to these quieter, but still beautiful, beach areas. There are several areas on Koh Samui where you can simply relax and rejuvenate on a peaceful beach surrounded by just a few luxury villas and beachfront restaurants. There are several quieter beaches that are off the beaten track.

Here are some of our top picks:

Laem Set Beach

Laem Set beach is a tranquil beach with natural large granite boulders and coconut palms and several small sandy coves. Laem Set is around a 20 minute drive from Lamai and 40 minutes from Chaweng. There is a large expanse of sand and shallow blue waters that extend out to an offshore reef, it’s a great beach for paddling. There are just a few restaurants and shops in this area, it really is quiet and relaxing. You can swim here during the tidal months of April and October, but at other times of the year it’s long walk before the water becomes deep enough to swim. You may need beach shoes in the water, unfortunately there are small pieces of dead coral on the sandy bottom. Laem Set is 20 minutes away by taxi from Lamai beach and 40 minutes from Chaweng beach.

Thongson bay

The majority of visitors to Koh Samui don’t reach this idyllic beach near Choeng Mon in the north of Koh Samui. It’s not easy to find, but it’s worth the effort if you are searching for a secluded pretty bay. If you do make the time to go there, you’ll be glad you did. It’s very quiet, but it’s a picturesque beauty with fabulous views. There is one restaurant, a sprinkling of bungalows and one hotel nearby. The tropical beach is stunning, with turquoise blue shallow water to paddle in and delightfully sandy beaches, you can also enjoy the views over to nearby islands. Tong Yang Beach

This is a palm fringed powdered sand beach to the south of Lipa Noi beyond the naval base headland, it’s a great spot for a walk along the coast collecting seashells but this very quiet beach does has a coral reef which restricts swimming during the summer months. Occupying the north of Tong Yang beach are some of our finest luxury Koh Samui villas  - many large enough to consider them as your own private hotel. Further along the beach there are some Thai bungalow resorts and at the south there is the Raja car ferry pier where boats take you to the Thailand mainland.

Ban Tai Beach

This quiet palm fringed sandy beach is in the north of Koh Samui, very close to Maenam, separated only by a small headland. The beach is lined with a couple of small hotels and some resorts of Thai design wooden beach houses that are available for Koh Samui holiday rental. Also along the beach especially at the west end you will find some rustic restaurants which are perfect for a spot of lunch whilst enjoying the beautiful views across to Koh Phangan.

Taling Ngam Beach

Taling Ngam is in the south west of Koh Samui, it’s a quiet beach in two sections separated by a small headland. The north section where the beach is narrower is dominated by the exclusive Intercontinental Hotel, other mid range hotels and luxury villas. To the south the beach is wider and a number of rustic Thai restaurants are excellent spots to chill out and enjoy the views and watch the sun go down over the Famous Five Islands
