Kamala is a quiet and tranquil area on Phuket's west coast, north of Kalim beach and the lively Patong. This area is less popular with tourists and those that do visit like it this way.

The area is largely unspoilt and uncrowded, the beach is clean and tranquil and it's easy to find a spot for yourself and appreciate the uninterrupted views.
Although it is a quieter, there is still plenty to see and do. Within Kamala there is a number of restaurants and bars and 5 star hotels, you'll also find some lovely spa's at the hotels that are open to external visitors for bookings. Kamala is home to one of Phuket's biggest attractions FantaSea, a cultural theme park featuring a nightly show, street market and dining.
Beaches
Kamala beach
Kamala is a beautiful stretch of quiet and clean beach. Between November and March the beach is generally great for swimming with calm, clear water. During May to October there are more waves and swell in the area. The northern end of the beach is known as a surfing spot. You can also snorkel in some parts of the beach and the local dive school can take you offshore for good diving. The beach is uncrowded and quiet, perfect for rest and relaxation.
This is a quieter area, but there is still lots of things to do in Kamala. The area has a large theme park, shopping street and local market, diving school and even a lawn bowling club.
Phuket FantaSea
This is a huge cultural theme park - it features a nightly show demonstrating Thai mythology with aerial ballet, pyrotechnics, song and dance. Another attraction is the Songbird Luminarie, where you are serenaded by magical songbirds of mythical legends.
Snorkelling
It is possible to snorkel at the northern end of the beach during calmer conditions.
Surfing
In the months of May to October this beach can experience swell and you can hire a board at the north end of the beach.
Diving
Try local Scuba Quest Dive Centre or Merlin Divers - they can take you offshore for beginner and experienced divers.
Wat Baan Kamala Temple
The local Buddhist temple, very peaceful and tranquil.
Lawn Bowling Club
Kamala has its own lawn bowling club, which is the only one in Phuket. It's popular with visitors and ex pats living in Phuket.
Shopping
There is a shopping street parallel to Kamala Beach, in addition FantaSEA is also home to a large market selling fresh fruit and vegetables as well as clothing, accessories and tasty street food. There is also a village market - don't forget to barter.
There are many places to eat in Kamala, a whole host of restaurants catering to different tastes and budgets. Gourmet dining or cheap beach eats, authentic local food or your favourite dishes from home - you'll find what you need here.
Silk
A stylish restaurant serving contemporary Asian cuisine, signature dishes include deep fried prawns wrapped in noodles and chicken poached in coconut milk with ginger and lemongrass.
Manubai
Lovely interior design in this first floor restaurant. It serves a range of French and Thai cuisine and guests can specify how spicy they would like their food.
Grill Bill
This is a popular chain restaurant and great for a light bite to eat, specialising in BBQ food including ribs and chicken.
Plum Restaurant (Cape Sienna Phuket)
This is the restaurant situated within the 5 star Cape Sienna hotel. A sophisticated modern Mediterranean menu, highlights include papaya salad with crab and sharing platters like surf and turf for two.
The nightlife in Kamala is quiet and you need to visit nearby Patong if you are looking for something livelier, there are a range of restaurants and bars that stay open late to enjoy drinks, live sport or to find a great spot to watch the sunset and stay there.
Vanilla Sky Bar and Lounge
Open until midnight, this lovely bar serves distinctive cocktails, has a pool table and some simply stunning views over Kamala Bay
Kamala Beer Garden
This is open until late and serves a full range of beer, drinks and barfood. It has pool tables and plays live sports.
