On the North West coastline of Koh Phangan, lying between Ao Hin Kong and Ao Srithanu, is the peninsula Srithanu and is the market centre for the west and north-west coast of Koh Phangan and has been ever since Laem Son, the local lake and beauty spot, was a tin mine at the turn of the century.

Located at the west end of the bay Ao Sri Thanu, the quaint village has plenty to offer. It is the area's main fishing port, although because of the depth of the water it is only suitable for the smaller squid fishing boats and long tail boats and is not obtrusive.

The peninsula extends way out from the coast and there are small beaches that populate its coastline with a scattering of resorts bungalows and private villas nested between the coconut trees. Baan Srithanu is quaint with plenty to offer.

Spa and wellness

For ultimate indulgence treat yourself to treatment at a Spa. Ananda Wellness Resort is located in Ao Hin Kong Bay. Yoga sessions are available at Agama Yoga not far from the Srithanu village.

Srithanu Beaches

Srithanu Beach

The beach is split by a river and the northern part has to be reached by a footbridge. The beach is wide and sandy and as the reef is not too far away, there is a good drop off and it is good for swimming in this northern part. The other half of the beach has been developed into a small anchorage for the local fishing fleet and is not good for swimming.

Hin Kong Beach

This is a 2km long beach lined with mangrove trees and mostly undeveloped, but it is only 5 metres from the road and you will only find a couple of bungalow places here. Only good for swimming from November to April, but great for watching the sun go down on this almost deserted beach.

Haad Chao Pao

This golden sand beach is over ½ km long and is lined with several beach bars. There is a reef 100 metres out and therefore it is good for all year round swimming and beyond it is perfect for diving and snorkelling. The beach is on a curved bay and experiences some of the best sunsets, giving a peaceful beauty with a laid back vibe.

Things to do Srithanu and Hin Kong are centred around the natural beauty of the area, with wonderful beaches and a a freshwater lake with giant rope swings.

The beaches are wonderfully close to the coral reef, making it a good spot for year round swimming and beach fishing.

Laem Son Lake (previously an old tin mine) is located behind the pine trees that shade the northern end of Srithanu, providing year round freshwater swimming and giant rope swings! Take care with the hidden plants underneath the water, as it is a protected area there is no fishing.

Shopping is available at Thong Sala 10 minutes away by taxi which has shops and mini malls
