Best things To Do in Koh Phangan 23 November 2015

A List of some of the activities to do or places to visit in the beautiful island of Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is famous for its laid back vibe and full moon parties, but this serene and spiritual island has a whole lot more to offer. Delve deeper and you'll discover a range of magical experiences.

There are so many things to do, it's hard to pick just seven....

1. Laem Son Lake / The Challenge at Srithanu

You'll find this lake behind the pine trees that shade the north of Srithanu beach. Here you will find what is known as The Challenge - a fun adventure water obstacle course very similar to the Wipeout course of TV fame. It has a series of rope swings, stepping stones, rolling barrells, monkey bars and of course those big red balls. If you complete the couse in a good time you'll make it on to the Wipeout leader board Wall of Fame.

2. Nam Tok Phaeng and Khao Ra

Namtok Phaeng Forest Park is part of the Than Sadet National Park in Koh Phangan. Khao Ra mountain is the highest elevation of the park and the whole island peaking at 727km above sea level. It has some spectacular views if you can make the trek. The waterfall itself runs dry at certain times of the year, but the whole area is picturesque and beautiful and you may come across some exciting wildlife including monkeys and snakes.

3. Watch the sunset at Mae Haad

Mae Haad is a relaxed and tranquil long white beach. It is connected by a sandbar to a very small island called Koh Ma. The area is a protected National Marine Park and is also a perfect spot for snorkelling. Although it is very quiet here there are a handful of restaurants and beach bars so you can enjoy a truly enjoyable evening here watching the spectacular sunset on the beach.

4. Guided bike tour.

Take a bicycle tour of the island. You'll get to experience lots of different terrain, trails that you wouldn't be able to access by car and take in some sights you may not have discovered yourself e.g. visiting a coconut factory, rubber plantation and animal shelter.

5. Wakeboarding

Wake Up Wakeboarding located in Chaloklum village have a good set up of equipment and boats and provide lessons and rental hire. A great activity for a group of friends or a family. The water is often calm and provides good conditions for this activity.

6. Cookery school.

There are several operators offering Thai cooking classes in Koh Phangan. It's a great way to learn about all the fresh ingredients and spices that go into your favourite dishes and how to make them. So you continue to enjoy a Taste of Thailand when you return home.

7. Wat Phu Khao Noi Temple

There are many temples to visit on Koh Phangan and this one is the oldest situated on the top of a hill just outside the ferryport of Thong Sala.
It has some very interesting ancient buildings and Chedis as well as amazing views over the island and beyond. The head monk there also speaks a bit of English; it's worth noting that the monks are only really around in the morning, though you can still visit until late in the afternoon.
